Double number of under-thirties now rent

More and more under-30s are renting, a new report has revealed. The latest Survey of English Households covers the year April 2006 to April 2007, when it found that the proportion of younger householders, aged 25-29, has nearly doubled in 14 years.

In 1993, young households in private rental accommodation accounted for 19% of all households, whereas last year they accounted for 36%.

The report also shows there are more second homes overseas than in England. The number of second homes abroad has more than doubled over the past ten years, from 115,000 in 1997 to 248,000 in 2007. Over the same period the number of second homes in England has risen by about 20% to 241,000

The Survey of English Housing is a continuous survey which started in April 1993. It provides key housing data on tenure, owner occupation and the social rented sector, and is a major source of information about the private rented sector.

ENERGY PERFORMANCE CERTIFICATES

From 1st October 2008, the Government has introduced Energy Performance Certificates to the lettings market. From this date all homes let in the UK must now have an Energy Performance Certificate.

Energy Performance Certificates (EPC) tell you how energy efficient a home is on a scale of A-G. The most energy efficient homes being in band A, which means that fuel bills will be lower. The Certificate also tells you, on a scale of A-G, about the impact the home has on the environment. The most efficient homes should have less impact on the environment through carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. The Certificate includes recommendations on ways to improve the home’s energy efficiency to save you money and help the environment.

Don’t want the hassle of arranging your EPC – we can arrange this for you. Please contact us for details.
